Functional skills English – level 1 or level 2

On our Functional Skills English courses, you will:
- Learn how to use language appropriately for different business situations such as when you're speaking with customers, suppliers or partners.
- Learn how to speak more clearly when presenting your ideas, pitching your services and communicating confidently in meetings.
- Improve your reading skills with a variety of different types of text.
- Learn spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence construction to write more accurate emails.
- Practise essential business writing styles such as formal letters, customer emails and forms.
You will also learn study skills and exam skills to help you achieve success. We know that not everyone had the best time at school, and for many of us, the idea of returning to learning as a busy adult can be worrying.
Our tutors understand this and offer support and guidance to learners who are juggling work and family commitments. Functional Skills English can also be a great progression route to a GCSE English course at Kingston Adult Education.

Eligibility requirements
You must be aged 19 or over (as at 31 August 2025) and be a UK resident.
